Nineties alternative rockers Third Eye Blind will be the Dillo Day daytime headliner this year, Mayfest's executive board announced Thursday. Indie favorite Broken Social Scene and local hip-hop duo The Cool Kids will complete this year's long-awaited lineup, which also includes hip-hop artist Common and rock band Ted Leo and the Pharmacists.

Third Eye Blind will be the first act of the day, taking the stage at 1 p.m. and playing until about 3 p.m. They will be followed by Ted Leo, Broken Social Scene and then the Cool Kids. Nighttime headliner Common will finish the day's musical lineup with an 8:30 p.m. concert, said Weinberg junior Diana Richter, Mayfest director of concerts and a former Daily staffer.

"Common and Third Eye Blind combined are headliners that appeal to almost everyone on campus," said Weinberg senior Ben Stix, Mayfest co-chairman.

While Third Eye Blind recently played at Loyola University Chicago, Mayfest co-chairman Brendon Lavernia said he thought Northwestern students would appreciate the performance more because the band is in the process of producing their new album, "Ursa Major."

Broken Social Scene is also a "breeding ground for some of the best alternative music right now," said Stix, a Weinberg senior.

NU student band Mind At Large, which won this year's Dillo Day Battle of the Bands, will open for Third Eye Blind starting at 12:30 p.m. Will Butler, a member of the band Arcade Fire and Weinberg '05, will guest DJ before Ted Leo's act.

The Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association are co-sponsoring the Third Eye Blind performance with Mayfest. They will also help the organization supply water, popsicles and pizza throughout the day.

Third Eye Blind is great and all, but when was their last hit? 1999? Wasn't there any rock headliner available who is less, shall we say, 7th grade?

Word on the street...

is that they are in the studio right now finishing up their new album (they have been on hiatus for 5 years). So yeah, they're a 90s band, but they will be current with a new album coming out and miles ahead of Counting Crows. (Continued…)

I don't understand why we get so many lame acts on dillo day. I was really looking forward to something great for my senior year.

Broken Social Scene is absolutely fantastic. That will easily make Dillo Day bearable.

This is Northwestern students using money given to them by ASG to bring music to school. Lackluster? Lets look at the past few lineups? Cake? Robert Randolph? And who actually listens to George Clinton?

Try to judge Dillo Day in the perspective of what has been done before and not what can be done for unlimited money. (Continued…)
